Intro to Aerial Hoop, Saturday, August 25, 10:30-12pm. aerial hoop, or lyra is a beautiful apparatus that offers a unique challenge to students accustomed to fabric. In this workshop, learn the basics of aerial hoop, including different types of inversions, dynamic work, and several short sequences on both apparatus. All levels welcome! 90 mins, $45
About the instructor:
Sara Sparrow has been a professional aerial and acrobatics instructor since 2008, and offers beginning through advanced level instruction in a wide range of disciplines, including static trapeze, lyra, corde lisse, aerial fabric, sling, doubles aerial, partner acrobatics, handbalancing, tumbling, act creation, and performance theory. she is the owner of Sparrow Studios in downtown Olympia, Washington. www.sparrowstudiosolympia.com (website currently down for rebuilding!) ig: @sparrowstudiosolympia
Sara Sparrow came to circus in 2004 through a background as a gymnast, an actor and performer in musical theater, and as a classically-trained singer and musician who also holds a degree in visual art. she has a distinctive awkward grace that permeates her solo aerial and acrobatic work. a malleable character actor with a wide range of interests, she is entranced by the collaborative effort of performer and audience, and the unparalleled possibility of modern circus.
she has performed and created with Levity, the Aerialistas, Ricochet, and the Tallhouse Arts Consortium, and has worked for Teatro ZinZanni, the Friedrichsbau Variete, Teatro Circo Price, and Animate Objects Physical Theater. although she has performed all over the west coast from Seattle to Oakland, and internationally in Japan, Spain, and Germany, she is currently most at home in Olympia, Washington. www.sparrowcircus.com, ig:@sparrowcircus
